Camilla Morello is an Italian actress based in Portugal and a multidisciplinary performer whose practice intersects dance, theatre, anthropology and performance. Her work explores ambiguity, paradox and the tragic through dark humour, seeking enchantment as a way of challenging anthropocentric perspectives. She works across multiple media, including performance, video, photography and installation.
She graduated as an actress from the Scuola Nazionale di Cinema in Rome, after completing a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology at La Sapienza University and studying art, philosophy, and aesthetics at Université Paris 8. She later moved to Lisbon, where she specialised in Olga Roriz’s two-year dance-theatre programme, took part in PACAP 6 – Fórum Dança, and attended workshops with several artists. She has collaborated with creators such as Tamara Cubas, Miguel Moreira, Miguel Pereira, Catarina Câmara, Maurícia Neves, Mickaël de Oliveira, Nuno M. Cardoso and Marcelo Evelin.
Her first solo, Uma peça dançada – abordagem semi-séria do vazio, was presented at Centro Cultural de Belém. She went on to create works such as the site-specific performance Common Land, the photography project Enclosures and the video-art piece Dissonances. Her solo Urna premiered at Teatro Municipal Campo Alegre and was later presented in Setúbal and Coimbra. In recent years, she premiered É Como Dançar Por Cima de Manteiga, co-created the performative installation Holobionte, and co-founded Coletivo Anatoli, whose first work Pthst’ ń debuted at Teatro do Bairro Alto.
She is currently developing BERMAS, a socially engaged project in a prison context, and is pursuing a master’s degree in Anthropology with a specialisation in Visual Cultures at NOVA FCSH.
